How We Started
Capital City Shag Club was formed in 2008 to preserve shag dancing in SC and beyond and provide
charitable contributions to worthy causes. We have danced at various venues and have had wonderful
parties and events at many locations over the years. We currently shag at the VFW Club in Lexington
on every Thursday excpet the third Thursday of the month.
Where We Are
In the summer of 2020 we began dancing at the VFW 424 Cedarcrest Dr. Lexington,
South Carolina 29073 on Thursday night. We started with approximately 30 to 40
each night and today we average 75 to 100. We host one major event party each year,
Shag Extravaganza held at the Embassy Suites in Columbia, SC. with an auction, 50/50’s, raffles,
vendors, and ticket sales all going to support local charities. We also host a DJ Rumble and 4
parties during the year to support these local charities. We currently donate to the VFW, Blue Star Mothers,
and Shrine Children’s Christmas Party.
Where We're Heading
In the future Capital City Shag Club hopes to increase the promotion of fellowship,
harmony and the preservation of the Shag Dance and beach music to everyone.
Juniors, seniors and all those in between by increasing our social events,
charitable events and workshops each year.
